ABSTRACT
Scheduling system for call duty physicians means the strategy by which physicians (doctors) are scheduled to be in clinics to attend to and treat patient, that is to know when they are suppose to be on duty and when they are not.
There are different sections in which physicians can be found, some of them are: department of medicine, physiotherapeutic, surgery, laboratory medicine. All doctors working under each of these departments are called physicians. Physicians are of different levels or grades, below are the different levels of physicians in university of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu. These levels are arranged in ascending order, house officers, registrar, senior registrars and consultants.
The aim of this study is to develop and implement a computerized system which will be used to call doctors or physicians on duty at appropriate time, at the department of medicine.
CHAPTER ONE

1.0   INTRODUCTION
1.1   Background of Study
Physicians on call schedule are made to ensure adequate medical staff availability because patients’ needs are not limited to traditional business hours.
Two different times are considered to meet patients’ attentiveness.
Normal or traditional Business hours, i.e. Mondays to Fridays.
Weekends: i.e. Saturdays and Sundays. Normal days are the normal time civil servants are on duty but because of not to leave patients unattended, attention brought their schedule on weekends. That is the main reason they have weekend’s calls.
Time is not considered while scheduling in the normal hours because each physician is expected to work for full day in UNTH Enugu especially the consultants.
In UNTH, there are many different physician department , some include.
  • Department of medicine
  • Department of  pediatric
  • Department of psychological medicine
  • Department of radiation medicine
  • Department of pharmacology
  • Department of surgery etc.
All departments have the same methods of calling on duty but are not independent to one another. There are four level of physician, they are as follows:
  • Consultant
  • Senior Registrar
  • Registrar
  • House officer
Each department comprises of these four levels. Therefore, there manual method was studied and the computerized one will be developed.
1.2   STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The call duty schedule for physician in UNTH Enugu is still done manually despite their big organization. This has made their work over boring, difficult and also time wasted and energy in posting the registrar and the house officer.
It is also obsolete, their last schedule was designed manually since 1996 and a lot of changes have occurred since then which does not suit the last scheduled, yet they still use it.

1.3   PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of the study is to develop and implement a computerized system which will be used to call physicians on duty at the appropriate time at the various departments in UNTH Enugu.
1.4   SIGNIFICANT OF STUDY
  • The system would be used in determining when the next physician will be on duty.
  • The system can be used as a data safeguard for the physician and as well as the patients to avoid mistake.
1.5   AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
  • The primary aim of this work is to prepare call duty master for physicians with ease
  • To easily make changes when required.
  • To monitor every physician or staff of each department who fails to attend to duty.
1.6   DELIMITATION OF STUDY [SCOPE]
The research is limited to the department of college of medicine. It critically study the current system in use, depicting the problem facing the system, analysis of the problem and coming up with a modified system that will solve the current problem and those that may come up with little or no modification.
1.7   CONSTRAINTS AND LIMITATION
The greatest physical challenges faced in carrying out this project work was sourcing for information. My major source of information was gotten from the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital [UNTH] Enugu. It took a lot of my money and time traveling in search of the information I need. But then, I did a detailed research work.

1.8   ASSUMPTION OF STUDY
The following assumption are strictly adhered to for the benefit of the smooth take off of the project topic.
  • It was assumed that all the data fed into the computer for processing are perfectly accurate.
  • It is assumed that the needed systems are provided for the implementation.
  • Based on the flexibility native of the programming language used, it is that the program can conveniently non on any computer system.
  • It is assumed that accurate information will be given.
